Dressage Working Student Position

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Impulsion Unlimited  seeks a special apprentice who is passionate  (bordering on obsession) about dressage.

This position is for an aspiring dressage rider who wants to learn by doing and benefit from the knowledge of people who have invested 22+ years training, competing and selling quality dressage horses. This is not "a job" posting. We are not looking for someone "looking for a job".

Are you the kind of person that loves the horses you work with and the facility you work in as if they are your own? Do you take pride in what you do and others seeing the results of your efforts even if the task is as mundane as tack cleaning? Do you subscribe to and digest one or more dressage magazines? Are you following the sport, the riders, and know were Devon is? If so: Read On....

For the person selected, we are committed to providing an opportunity for you to acquire a real education and skills development by participating in the training of many horses. You will advance your riding and horsemanship skills at an accelerated rate, and if you choose, Jeff will teach you the art of consultative selling, and it's application to marketing dressage horses and the "Business" side of the business.

Stall cleaning and other farm chores are part of this position and WE ALL pitch in. We/you ride 6 days a week. You will have one day off each week and one weekend off per month. We wish this were a country club but it is a working farm and sales facility.

Qualifications Desired:

  • An outgoing, fun, pleasant attitude, maturity, high energy, and a great sense of humor.
  • A willingness to go above and beyond without being told (a self-starter)
  • Flexibility
  • Someone who pays attention to details, takes initiative, and can make good decisions
  • Non-smoker
  • Ability to make a full-time long-term commitment to your training, ideally 6 months or more
  • Professional appearance and manner
  • Passion for Learning and Dressage - NOT just a job

Horsemanship skills:

  • Minimum, very solid dressage basics, ideally ridden 2nd level or above
  • Experience riding a variety of horses
  • Experience starting and working with young horses
  • Experience with Stallions is a plus
  • Must have a Calm and Even Personality - Bad Temper with Horses?- Don't Bother.
  • Ability to take instruction, retain learning, and apply it when not supervised.
  • A  passion for learning something from every horse and every ride
  • Solid References are a must.

Benefits Include:

The ability to learn and train as far as your abilities and the horses can take you under the guidance of a proven FEI  Grand Prix rider and trainer.

You will have an opportunity to work with many horses of various levels (starting youngsters - F.E.I. competitors)

Living arrangement assistance

Opportunities to show, possible board for one horse or the assignment of a horse as "your project"

A small weekly stipend
